IOC Ethics Commission calls for Lamine Diack suspension as Honorary Member

The International Olympic Committee Ethics Commission has recommended the provisional suspension of former IAAF President, Mr Lamine Diack, as Honorary Member of the IOC.

The IOC Ethics Commission has recommended the provisional suspension of former IAAF President, Mr Lamine Diack, as Honorary Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The [link id=”335″ tax=”post_tag” text=”IOC”], in a statement issued on Monday after the release of the WADA Independent Commission Report on doping in Athletics, called the [link id=”340″ tax=”post_tag” text=”World Anti-doping Agency” target=”_blank”] findings “a deeply shocking report and very saddening for the world of sport”.

“The IOC trusts that the new leadership of the IAAF with its President [link id=”811″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Sebastian Coe” target=”_blank” target=”_blank”] will draw all the necessary conclusions and will take all the necessary measures.” the statement continued.

“In this context the IOC welcomes the clear commitment expressed by IAAF to do “whatever it takes to protect the clean athletes and rebuild trust in our sport.”

“With regard to the police inquiries against the former IAAF President Mr. [link id=”186″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Lamine Diack” target=”_blank” target=”_blank”] the IOC Ethics Commission has today decided to recommend the provisional suspension of his IOC honorary membership,” the IOC concluded.

The 82-year-old Diack, from [link id=”103″ tax=”category” text=”Senegal” target=”_blank”], is under investigation by French police for allegedly receiving more than €1m to cover up doping in Athletics.
