AFN Golden League: Adeloye, Brume, Imhoaperamhe shine in Akure


The trio of leading home-based stars, Tosin Adeloye, Ese Brume and Nicholas Imhoaperamhe, dominated at the third Athletics Federation of Nigeria – AFN Golden League meet held in Akure, Ondo State, on Saturday July 11, 2015.

Commonwealth and African Long Jump champion, , returning to the local circuit after skipping the 2nd leg of the in Abuja last month, won the women’s event with only one jump.

Brume’s first jump of 6.61 metres  was enough for victory, and qualification for next month’s IAAF World Championships in Beijing, ahead of US-based Euphemia Edem (6.20m), who won the Abuja leg, and Blessing Ibrahim (6.17m).

continued his domestic dominance in the men’s 100m with his third victory in the series, following the wins in Anambra (10.23, PB) and Abuja (10.36) with a 10.38 clocking in Akure.

African junior sprints champion, repeated his second place finish from Anambra and Abuja, clocking 10.40 for the second position in Akure, while Chukwudi Olisakwe was third in 10.60.

Anambra golden league winner won the women’s 100m in 11.74 seconds ahead of (11.81) and Cecilia Francis (11.87).

African junior champion won the women’s 400m for the third meeting in a row with yet another personal best finish, this time lowering it to 52.31 seconds in Akure.

Rita Ossai came second in 52.51 seconds while Funke Oladoye finished in third position in 52.96 seconds.

Samson Nathaniel shocked AFN Golden League men’s 400m leader , who clocked a 46.13 PB in Abuja, in the final leg of the series in Akure.

Nathaniel, who finished second in Abuja (46.49), out-dipped Orukpe on the finish line to claim his first AFN Golden League race win in a personal best time of 46.37 seconds.

Orukpe finished second in 46.40 seconds ahead of , who was third in 46.99 seconds.
