The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has added three new meetings to its Golden League series to further prepare the national athletes for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing and the African Games in Brazzaville this autumn.

The three-leg Golden League events series will kick off at the Rojenny Stadium in Onitsha, Anambra state on June 11, followed by Kaduna on June 24, with the final meeting in Ilorin on July 11.

According to a statement signed by AFN’s technical director, Navy Commodore , the Golden League events will be followed by the and CAA Super Grand Prix on July 24, and the AFN/CRS All-Nigeria Athletics Championships scheduled for July 30 to August 1 in Calabar, Cross River State.

“We shall be appointing some members of the technical committee as Technical Delegates to oversee the 3-legged competition,” said Commodore Nesiama. “I am also attaching the AFN Programme of Activities reflecting this amendment accordingly.”

“Please note that based on the technical committee’s assessment of the performances of our athletes in the last one year while at the same time keeping focus on our expectations for the year, we have made few amendments to some aspects of the previous editions.

“This is to make it realistic and and at the same time appealing to the athletes especially in the events we are trying to encourage,” he added.

The highlights to note are as follows:

  • The League is still performance-based.
  • The prize money winning standard for track events is increased slightly from 1050 to 1070 points on the IAAF Scoring Tables.
  • The prize money winning standard for jump events is increased from 1000 to 1050 points.
  • Prize money for the relay events is increased to tally with that of the Golden League events individual prize monies.
  • To encourage the Race Walk events, 700 points and 350 points on the IAAF Scoring Table has been set as prize money winning standards for the men and women race walk athletes respectively.
  • Technical delegates shall be appointed to render technical assessment report on each leg of the league.
  • All athletes that meet the standards set are sure to get their prize monies within days after completion of the competition and doping results received as the case may be.
  • The top-finishers in each event would have a chance to be invited to fill the reserved lanes for Nigerian athletes at the Warri Relays/CAA Grand Prix to be held on 24 July 2015.
  • The League also provides a veritable platform for athletes at home to make the World Championships and All-African Games standards.
  • One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,500,000) is earmarked as Jackpot Prize for winners that meet the set requirements of the League.
  • IAAF Anti-Doping regulations shall be strictly enforced. Therefore, athletes participating in the League should be ready to submit to dope test in and out of competition.
  • The legs of the League are scheduled as follows: Rojenny Stadium Onitsha (11 June 2015) – Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna (27 June 2015) – Ilorin Stadium, Ilorin (11 July 2015)
