About: 

Yomi Omogbeja is the award-winning publisher of Africa's solely dedicated athletics news website - AthleticsAfrica.com and Nigeria's online portal - Nigeria A2Z.com.

He was pioneer Planning/Online editor for NEXT and was the 2011 winner (Individual) of the Telkom/SABC Highway Africa New Media Awards for Journalism Innovation.

A graduate of the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom where he received an MA in Web Journalism in 2004, Yomi was a Finalist in the 2004 Press Gazette UK student online journalist of the year award.

In autumn 2005, Yomi was back at the Sheffield University to pursue a PhD degree in ICTs and new media usage in African newsrooms. In between studies, he worked part-time as a Web Editor/Tutor at Kelvin Media Productions in Sheffield.

In 2005, Yomi served as Content Assistant at the BBC Content Management Culture group, White City in London. In July 2004, he completed a two-month CEED as Alumni web content provider for the ECOLEAD project on AIESEC.net, an EU collaborative project on virtual organisations, learning networks and professional virtual communities, at AIESEC International in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He has also taken part in various team collaborations to develop online sites, information systems analysis, usability research and survey.

Yomi worked in Africa for three years as a Correspondent covering Nigeria and West Africa for the Houston-based online petroleum news source Oil and Gas International Inc. Between 1998 - 2002, he worked at various times at Chevron Nigeria, Tempo Magazines, Punch newspapers, National Interest Newspapers and Africa Oil + Gas report.

A recipient of the Chevening postgraduate award in 2003, Yomi has undertaken work-placements at the Daily Telegraph in London, Holdthefrontpage.co.uk in Derby and Leeds-based Ananova.com.

Yomi holds a second-class upper B.Ed in Guidance and Counselling Psychology and M.Ed in Sports Psychology from the University of Ibadan. He was Vice-President for Publicity and External Relations at AIESEC in Ibadan from 1995-1997.
